About the UH EMS - Institute Paramedic Programs

University Hospitals paramedic programs consist of four components of instruction: didactic instruction, skills laboratory, clinical education, and field internship. Along with classroom education the students will have the opportunity for clinical rotations at University Hospitals Medical Centers and field internship at local EMS provider agencies.

At the completion of the program, the graduate of the University Hospitals Paramedic Education Program will:
  • demonstrate the ability to comprehend, apply, and evaluate clinical information
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency in all skills necessary to fulfill the role of entry level paramedic
  • Demonstrate personal behaviors consistent with professional, ethical and employer expectations

Students that successfully complete this program are eligible to test for certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Upon receipt of the NREMT-P certification, candidates may make application to the Ohio Department of Public Safety Division of EMS for Ohio paramedic certification.
University Hospitals offers 2 locations for paramedic level training offering different programs and schedule options. Here at UHHS we offer:
  • Accelerated Paramedic program consisting of 42 hours per week over 18 to 23 weeks. This program is designed for the experienced EMT-B with strong academic medical backgrounds looking to advance to the paramedic level in a shorter time frame. This individually tailored program will run five days per week. Three days a week will be spent in class and the other two days in clinical rotations.
  • We provide an intensive year-long program is designed to give EMT- B opportunity to pursue of rough didactic instruction,Medical Centers, and field internshipsParamedic level education offered one day a week with a few additional classes required during the year. Students will be able to complete their clinical time concurrently with their classroom time, without a strong time commitment.
  • We offer a Traditional paramedic program. Commonly we meet 3 nights per week over 9 months. This program is designed at a slower pace and works around many student schedules. Students will be able to complete their clinical time concurrently with their classroom time.
